SUPER CUP FINAL

Newcastle Utd 1 - 2 Roma

Newcastle sign their season off with a well battle final losing 2-1 to Roma. The toon Boss is proud of his players and feels they have gone beyond what he expected of them....after taking over newcastle with them in the relegation zone and having no money in the bank and looking like going down....manager adie2good came in and turned things round straight away, but his priority was the league...to get away from relegation that the previous manager left them in. The newcastle fans were in tears at the end but chanted the managers name which was electric....the fans really got behind the players and were proud of them all....

one fan after the game said "what can i say,we didnt expect this at all...to reach a final and lose is heartbreaking..but to reach a final at all is outstanding and when we were in the group stage we werent looking like a team that could win, its amazing what calibre of player adie2good has brought in to take us to where we are today,were all proud of him and the players....but most of all were hoping he will still be at St.James Park next season as we hear rumour theres going to be many sackings at the end of the season...Roma were matched today for sure....but well played Roma...were just glad we dint lose to sunderland or boro haha"

Adie2good is now looking to build for next season and already has some players keen to join his current squad

Match report:

Both teams matched each other in all departments and it was mainly some sloppy defending from newcastle that allowed Roma the freedom to shoot at goal.....Newcastle started off shaky the first 20 mins but found their feet whilst Roma were passing freely and confidently...but newcastles akward defensive midfield got stuck in and started to upset some of the Roma players....Roma took the lead though with a nice strike intot he bottom of the net with given almost getting to it after some outstanding saves....what silvestre was doing to allow the shot was not known...maybe the nerves got to him....newcastle needed to change it as a few players werent performing which proved to work and some great running down the wing by vicente and was about to pull a cross when a dangerous and bad tackle from behind caused vicente to go down....this was surely a red card without a doubt....a deliberate tackle from behind cos he was beaten...nooo the ref just gave a free kick and yellow card....shocking decision and its reported uefa will be reviewing the refs decision.....but vicente got back on his feet and took the free kick but you could sense he was uncomfortable after the tackle....newcastle then were caught short at the back and given pulled off some grewat saves...but then some good football from fernandes and keane made Roma make a silly mistake and try pass the ball back to his keeper but the pitch was water logged and keane ran in to make it 1-1 with in 2 mins of roma scoring their first....after this newcastle thought they were back in it and on top....but within 10 mins Roma again took advantage of a mistake and made it 2-1

halftime

Newcastle changed to a more attacking formation and brought on super sub negredo who striaght away showed why hes world class setting keane off on a 1 on 1 but somehow the last defender got back and barged keane off the ball.....moments later keane turned provider and passed negredo through who was about the lob the keepr and out come the defender again for what looked like an impossible tackle to prevent the goal.....Roma looked bit more pegged back in the 2nd half with toon pushing forward....but did show signs of counter attack.....which newcastle were goign to get as they went to 3 and the back.....but managed to keep roma out again.....newcastle wasted a perfect chance to make it 2-2 from the corner valencia whipped in just missing keanes head who has been nodding them in all the way to the final from the corners....maybe it was due to vicente not taking it that it wasnt quite a good enough corner.
Roma pressed more to try put the game to bed but found that keane and negredo were waiting on the edge of the halfway to punce on any bits...and found some space...but the newcastle midfield were lazy and just didnt get up fast enough to support. the last 5 mins came in and newcastles hearts were sinking.....but a moment of luck saw fernandes shoot to only see it deflect back out.....the final whislte went and the players colapsed to the floor in absolute disbelief they had let it slip......i went in to speak to the manager who said

"Next season we will come back even stronger, we will be a top 5 team and will be back bigger and stronger...now we have let go of all the players who werent putting their hearts into it like Owen,Duff,Viduka,Taylor,N'Zogbia etc...we have built a great team who will be even better next seaosn, dont forget that at least 7 of the team have only been together for the last 9 games of the season + the super cup...imagine what they will be like next season....fantastic....im very proud of my lads and i wish Roma all the luck next season, they were great today...i have a few targets for players next season to make out team even stronger and theyve agreed personal terms...but were still in talk with the clubs about fees"
