Three quick fire goals from Sevilla made them look comfortable for the win but as they took the foot off the gas Osasuna were allowed back into the match. A nervy last 10 minuts for the Sevillastas as Osasuna looked for the equaliser.

In this second of the cup/league double bill between the two Spanish rivals it was Valencia who came out fighting early. They obviously wanted revenge for last nights defeat and deservedly took the lead after only 7 mins. A lovely passing move from Villarreal gave Fabregas his 2nd goal in 2 games to level the scrores, and a Nistelrooy header from a corner put Villarreal 2-1 up going into ht.

Into the second half and what a half! not sure how there wasnt more goals beause it was end to end action all the way to the finish line. Villarreal trying to seal the win for good and Valencia trying to equalise, which they were ever so unlucky not to. AJ's men must have hit the woodwork about 5 times!

So once again it was an incredibly tense finish for the fans and once again Villarreal's defence held out. Same score as supercup game last night and same scorers lol. Villarreal march on in search of champs cup qualification....

A very evenly matched game saw Deportivo take the lead right before half time through a wonderful long range free-kick by C.Ledesma. Palop got a touch but the power was too much and the ball ended up in the net.

Deportivo looked as though they would end the half in front until Luis Fabiano found himself in space at the edge of the box and powered home to equalise with the last kick of the half.

Second half was more of the same with nothing to choose between the two sides. Sevilla did look more likely to score but as the half wore on a draw seemed destined. Until, with two minutes to play, Sevilla broke down the left wing, Luis Fabiano cut inside and blasted a shot which the keeper could only parry into the feet of S.Eto'o who volleyed home.

Good game Mitch, but unlucky to loose with a re-bounded shot at the death.

honestly this was a bad performance from barca villareal really stumped us with all that passing around stuff their defence was tight throughout the game and i only had 2 goal scoring opportunities
bottled one and thankfully finished the other
but after this win i have to credit wombat for a fuckin battle he had most of the posession and kept ron quiet but i got the lucky break i suppose everyone get one sometime

gg it says alot about the game that a DEF was the Mom tho

what can i say.... im so gutted i feel like crying. Was the first time this season that ive adapted my formation and tactics because i know how much of a threat barca are. Looked like it had worked perfectly until trez scored with nearly last kick of game. Barca were not on their best form but Villarreal had more shots, shots on target, more possesion and there is no way they deserved this. But thats football i suppose its bloody harsh tho.

Wouldnt have been so upset if id got hammered but marked ron and messi out the game and put in one of my best ever performances.

Got to give credit to Sporting for a very organised performance and if they had better players they prob would have won this. One of the worst performances ive ever put in tho. really shocking at times. chronicwombat is furious with his men and despite some jaw dropping last man tackles from the Gijon defence and jo hitting the inside of the post in last 5 mins, Villarreal didn't deserve more than a point.

The submarines really need to pick themselves up from the last 2 league results. The loss to barca is still being felt around the club and this result adds to the woes. 3 days ago Villarreal were looking good for champs cup - now they are right in the battle for any european place next season. One thing is for sure though, and that is that chronicwombat will be doing all he can to re-motivate his players for the final push.

A match in which Sevilla boss Bosic84 described as a 'must win', The Sevillastas duely delivered.

An unconvincing opener from Maxi on 25 minutes calmed the nerves until Valencia broke on the counter attack from a corner and E.Heskey leveled. Sevilla looked shakey for the rest of the half and the start of the second half until the hitman S.Eto'o restored the lead on 52 minutes.

From then on Sevilla knew that a third goal was needed to put the game to bed and unlikey hero F.Semioli delivered with just over 15 minuts left to play. Luis Fabiano put the icing on the cake with the last kick of the match.

Sevilla now have one foot firmly on the Champs Cup spot.

annoyed that i thought it would be a good idea to play an important game given those circumstances
