Disasterous start to the season from Sevilla. Many missed chances one-on-one. Good counter attacks from Gijon.

Week 2

(snetter1234) Malaga 0 - 8 Real Madrid (Gaz Eat World)

a very very one sided game which started off much brighter for Malaga than it ended. they had the first effort on goal with javi guerroro pulling his shot wide. Then the AC Unit got in to gear (amauri and carew lol) amauri breaking down the left to square for the big man who wasnt going to miss and score on his debut .

all madrid after that with amauri grabbing a brace on his debut and even left back maxwell grabbing a debut goal.

unlucky mate, u caught me on a good day, good for me, bad for you.

very poor start to the season for malaga unable to break real madrid defence if they keep playing like this they have got a very good chance of winning the leauge and maybe some cups good game mate for u anyway

What a good way to start the season nevas on form knocking in goals left right and centre even new sighning left back heinze getting his head on the ball to net 1 too but to be fair ANGEL did play well the first half with some good threw balls. gg m8 good luck on the season its going 2 be hard but iv been there done that and put every faith in ur team coz they will that u for it

Fits game of the season for El Submarino Amarillo, and after last season's collapse chronicwombat really wanted to get off to a good start for the fans and player confidence.

It definitely wasnt a good start though, as the motm D. Barral slotted home from inside the box after a very nice passing move from Gijon. The home fans went wild and Villarreal were looking a little shell shocked for the remainder of the first half as they tried to regroup and hit back.

chronicwombat had to wait till the 66th minute for his lads to find the equaliser though. A thru ball from Cassano set Murgu off on the left wing, and his pace was too much for the gijon defence as he cut inside to fire into the top of the net from 6 yds. 1-1 and game on! It certainly was as well because both sides wanted the win and went on the attack, with SavageRacks's men continuing to move the ball around excellently and put Villarreal under pressure. But Gambs and Nesta stood up well and closed down any dangerous looking moves.

It looked like a draw was on the cards until..... Fabregas passed to Nistelrooy who was just inside the Gijon half.....
With his back to goal and surrounded by defenders it didnt look like anything was on, but then a quick spin on the ball, a burst of pace and power and a trademark rocket of a shot into the top right corner from just outside the box sent the away supporters into hysterics!! 2-1 to villarreal and the morale boosting first win of the season was theirs!

chronicwombat had this to say after the game:

"You have to feel a bit sorry for gijon because they showed no fear and took the game to Villarreal, but after so many horrible defeats from last minute goals last season, its about time that we got an 84th minute winner of our own!"

gg mate u were quite unlucky not to get the point, but if u play like that all season then you will do very well.

Week one

Sporting Gijon(SavageRack) 1 Villarreal(Chronicwombat) 2

MoM: Barral

Great game of football on show by both teams with the class of Villarreal just shading it in the end. Gijon's forward men were a constant thorn in the Villarreal defence with Barral opening the scoring on 24mins by leaving his marker for dead to slot past the ex Getafe stopper. Villarreal were always in the game and with Mutu at his menacing best, it was only matter of time before the Gijon Resistance was broken. And so it was on the 66min when Cassano played a beautiful ball to Mutu who stopped to take some cocaine .....sorry i mean outmuscled Lacruz and smashed the ball into the roof of the net to make it one a piece. Brooker couldve won the game for Gijon in the closing stages if his amount of effort matched his level of skill.
With 6minutes remaining, Van nistelrooy showed the free transfer from Bristol how its done with and unstoppable drive past Cuellar and end any chance of another upset by Gijon.

(KILLERXIII) Racing Santander 0 -3 Villarreal (chronicwombat)

Second game of the season for Villarreal and after the victory against Gijon they went into this with a lot of confidence. The confidence showed as the Submarines demolished Santander, having 18 shots to their 1 and owning 60% of the possesion. If it wasnt for the woodwork and some great saves from Racing keeper Coltorti then it could have been a lot more. The fans are delighted to see Clichy get motm in his second game for the club with 10's across the board - his bursts of pace down the wing were instrumental to the victory.

Yeh you played well. Your tactics are spot on for playing against people who love to play through balls through the middle. Your goalkeeper did well at times aswell, ukrenegade used to swear by Abbiati. I didn't want to seem angry at you i'm just infuriated at Auoate and how terrible he is compared to Gomes. I was scared everytime you got near my box.
I think the only time i've let in 4 goals on this site was against Barcelona which i like to think says everything.

a good open game dominated by madrid, osasuna went for 5 at the back and 1 cdm hoping for a draw or to snatch the win as they did last season, but madrid were ready and the 2 big bulls upfront connected well to bring the 3 points home.

carew opened the scoring with a bullet into the top corner from 18 yards, the lead was doubled through amauri on 55 mins. osasuna then got a break and portillo finished cooly.

but amauri had the last laugh with a di canio esq scissor kick.

gg m8 gl with rest of season

after putting up a good fight against barcelona, racing went into this one fairly confidently, but after a disasterous start just couldnt get going.

really close game gijon's defence looked solid until ronaldo got through the first time then he kept burning Gijon's players

Gijon had more shots on target but couldnt finish until the last minute

gg you should be pushing for top 10 after that

Gijon came to the nou camp hoping Barca had caught swine flu the night before. Unfortunately they didnt and so the match was a routine training exercise as they strolled to a 4-1 victory with ronaldo netting a hattrick without breaking a sweat. Gijon huffed and puffed but never looked capable of scoring and really struggled to keep up to pace with a Barca side containing two of the best players on the planet(Messi and ronaldo).

Barca will surely face stiffer opposition in the coming weeks but do look like they could take some beating this season...
